Born To Sell alternative: a covered call screener plus puts, spreads and AI

By OptionClaws · Updated 2026-11-04

Born To Sell is the better pick if covered calls are all you trade and you want a dedicated screen, an income dashboard and emailed watchlist alerts. OptionClaws is the better pick if you also sell cash-secured puts, trade spreads or other multi-leg strategies, or want to run scans from Claude, ChatGPT or your phone. Born To Sell describes itself as covered call screener and portfolio management software, and says it has screened covered calls since 2010. This page compares the two using each company's public pages, checked on November 4, 2026. We make OptionClaws, so read it with that in mind: we say where Born To Sell does more, and we leave out what we could not verify.

Who should stay with Born To Sell

If you sell covered calls month after month and want a tool built only for that, Born To Sell is purpose-made and has been at it longer than most. Its pages describe depth in the one strategy rather than breadth.

  • You only trade covered calls. The screener, the portfolio tools and the Top 10 page of popular covered calls all serve that single strategy, on stocks and ETFs.
  • You want your positions managed beside the screen. Its dashboard shows how much time premium remains in each position, its personal calendar lists earnings and ex-dividend dates for your holdings, and it adds a rolling calculator and an income goal. It describes this as a replacement for a custom tracking spreadsheet.
  • You want an emailed alert. Its Watchlist feature emails you when option premiums on your chosen symbols reach a level you set.
  • You like one-click filters for a covered call routine. Its screener lists one-click removal of options with earnings before expiration, a filter for ex-dividend dates before expiration, and a checkbox for ETFs only.
  • You want a 2-week look at everything. Its trial covers everything the service has, with the card validated at sign-up and charged on day 15 unless you cancel.

Who should consider OptionClaws instead

OptionClaws is built around the scan across many strategies. Pick one of 23 strategies or define up to 4 legs, apply filters, and review ranked trades across the market, each with a payoff chart and probability of profit. It fits a few situations Born To Sell's pages do not cover.

  • You sell puts as well as calls. The cash-secured put strategy has the same filters as covered calls, and the Wheel Candidates and Covered Call Income presets cover both halves of the wheel. Born To Sell's pages describe covered calls only, so confirm with the company if you need puts there.
  • You trade spreads, condors or calendars. OptionClaws scans credit and debit spreads, iron condors, straddles, strangles, butterflies, calendars and diagonals across the market.
  • You want to ask an AI assistant. OptionClaws includes connectors for ChatGPT and Claude, so you can describe a scan in plain English, price a position or log a trade. We found no AI connector on Born To Sell's pages.
  • You scan on a phone. OptionClaws has iPhone and Android apps beside the web app, and we found no phone app on Born To Sell's pages.
  • You want to go from scan to trade to journal. The strategy builder shows payoff at expiration and on any date, the optimizer ranks trades for a target price and date, and the journal tracks profit and loss, win rate, assignments and rolls.

How the covered call screens compare

Both screens exist to rank covered calls by income against risk. Born To Sell's demo results show columns for call strike, call bid, net debit, next ex-dividend date, earnings release, return if flat and annualized return. OptionClaws lets you filter on annualized return, return on risk, delta, distance out of the money, probability of expiring worthless, implied volatility rank, dividend yield on strike, earnings and ex-dividend dates, then sort the results.

Read the return definitions in each tool before comparing numbers. In OptionClaws, covered call returns assume you bought the shares at the current stock price, so if you already own shares at a different cost, work out your own return from the strike and premium. Born To Sell links to its own explanation of its results, and we did not compare the two formulas.

For dividend capture, both have a way to handle ex-dividend dates: Born To Sell limits results to options with an ex-dividend date before expiration, and OptionClaws has a Dividend-Capture Covered Calls preset and ex-dividend date filters.

If you want to add puts: the wheel

Many covered call traders eventually add cash-secured puts to get into shares they would like to own, which turns the covered call routine into the wheel. Born To Sell's pages describe the call side only, so that half of the loop would live in another tool. OptionClaws runs the put as one scan and the covered call as a second scan with the same filters, and its journal can log an assignment when a put expires in the money. It does not track the cycle or your cost basis for you, so if you want that, our wheel tools roundup lists tools that do.

Price and trial

Born To Sell's pricing page lists $59.95 a month, $149.95 for 3 months (a 17% discount) and $499.95 a year (31%), and says all plans have the same features. The 2-week trial gives you everything and validates your card on sign-up, with the first charge on day 15 if you do not cancel.

OptionClaws has one plan with every feature, and its price and any trial are on the pricing page. We do not repeat them here, so that this page cannot go out of date. Prices change, so check both pricing pages before you subscribe.

How to decide

If covered calls are your whole routine, try Born To Sell's trial first: it is built for that routine and adds portfolio tools around it. If you want the same screen for puts, the wheel and multi-leg trades, or want to run it from an AI assistant or a phone, try OptionClaws. The fastest comparison is to run a covered call scan you already trust in both, look at the top results, and see which list you would act on.
